چکیده

A Coulomb sum rule is derived for the response of nuclei to (e, e ′) scattering with large three-momentum transfers. Unlike the nonrelativistic formulation, the relativistic Coulomb sum is restricted to spacelike four-momenta for the most direct connection with experiments; an immediate consequence is that excitations involving antinucleons, e.g., N ¯ N pair production, are approximately eliminated from the sum rule. Relativis-tic recoil and Fermi motion of target nucleons are correctly incorporated. The sum rule decomposes into one-and two-body parts, with correlation information in the second. The one-body part requires information on the nucleon momentum distribution function, which is incorporated by a moment expansion method. The sum rule given through the second moment (RCSR-II) is tested in the Fermi gas model, and is shown to be sufficiently accurate for applications to data.

Nuclear binding effects in relativistic Coulomb sum rules.

We extend the formulation of relativistic Coulomb sum rules to account for the average effects of nuclear binding on the initial and final states of ejected nucleons. Relativistic interactions are included by using a Dirac representation adapted from a vector-scalar field theory. The scalar field reduces the effective nucleon mass M * and increases the relativistic effects of recoil and Fermi m...

On the Coulomb and higher - order sum rules in the relativistic Fermi gas

Two di erent methods for establishing a space-like Coulomb sum rule for the relativistic Fermi gas are compared. Both of them divide the charge response by a normalizing factor such that the reduced response thus obtained ful lls the sum rule at large momentum transfer. To determine the factor, in the rst approach one exploits the scaling property of the longitudinal response function, while in...

Ii. Path Integral for the Relativistic Coulomb System via Sum over the Perturbation Series

We evaluate the Green’s function of the D-dimensional relativistic Coulomb system via sum over perturbation series which is obtained by expanding the exponential containing the potential term V (x) in the path integral into a power series. The energy spectra and wave functions are extracted from the resulting amplitude. PACS 03.20.+i; 04.20.Fy; 02.40.+m Typeset using REVTEX ∗e-mail:d793314@phys...

Ultrasoft contribution to heavy-quark pair production near threshold

We compute the third-order correction to the heavy-quark current correlation function due to the emission and absorption of an ultrasoft gluon. Our result supplies a missing contribution to top-quark pair production near threshold and the determination of the bottom quark mass from QCD sum rules.
